Tourism industry increased over the national economy

Mexico, May 17 (Notimex). – Tourism activity in Mexico increased 3.8 percent over 2015, by being placed over the whole national economy, which registered a rise of 2.5 percent annually, informed the head of the Tourism Ministry (Sectur, for its acronym in Spanish), Enrique de la Madrid.

On a statement, the public official stressed that this growth makes the touristic sector one of the most important for the economy, by creating jobs and welfare for millions of Mexicans.

He assured that the previous year was positive for the tourism sector in the country; proof of this is that Mexico moved from place 22 to 17 in foreign currency.

About the arrival of visitors, De la Madrid detailed that in three years, this indicator moved from the place fifteenth to ninth, receiving in 2015 more than 32 million foreign tourists.

In turn, he highlighted that in 2015 the expenses from international visitors increased 6.4 percent, meanwhile the domestic consumption increased 3.2 percent.

He explained that the new 32 additional air routes and the Formula One Grand Prix held in Mexico City, among other events, were factors that contributed to the growth last year.

Thus, he added, it seeks to consolidate Mexico as a world tourism power, as well as making it the sector creating more jobs and welfare in the country.
